I didn’t give myself any specific challenge today because we had plans to go to an arts and crafts fair. I usually get really inspired by visiting a show and seeing everyone else’s work, but today was a little disappointing. Out of the 100 or so booths, I only saw 3-4 artists who were doing something really unique, original, and/or expressively from the heart.
I couldn’t believe how many people who were doing the same old art that you can find at any craft show. Most of them blended one into another with nothing to make them stand out.
I respect those that can paint a photo perfect image, because I myself could not do it (although I’m sure I could if I spent years practicing). But it does nothing for me. I would rather see your heart in the painting, some expression, some style.
“It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.” ~Pablo Picasso
A painting that is a true reflection of the artist is much more interesting to look at in my opinion. It evokes emotion, speaks to you, makes you think.
So, if you’re a budding artist… Please… focus on painting from the heart and finding your style; instead of fixating on perfectionism.
