What is standing in your way of being creative today? Is it time? Is it those nasty voices in your head telling you you aren’t good enough? Is it procrastination? Is it fear?
If its anything at all… what it really is, is an EXCUSE. If you suddenly had something important to do, you could find time for it, couldn’t you? If you had a deadline, your work would get done, wouldn’t it? If you were forced to face a fear, you would eventually get over it, wouldn’t you? So why is it so different with creativity? If you really wanted to be creative, you would find time for it. Get over your fears, push through what is blocking your path and just CREATE. Realize that excuses are just that… excuses!

I find that since I have been making and creating for such a long time that I am running out of the desire to achieve and produce somthing new. Like the feeling is: It takes so long to finish a project. I wish I could get things done quicker and have more volume to sell. BUT when I craft a doll since I have been making them for 30+ years I am dragging on new ideas and loose momemtum or desire to get started to a finished end. Any suggestions to make my interest come back?
Hi Liz, I find this to be a common problem. It has happened to me too! I would suggest trying something new that relates to your dolls. Like, try making mini dolls or teddy’s and sell them as accessories for your dolls. Or maybe try making patterns to sell for your doll designs.
Another thing to try, is to narrow your choices.. like for example, decide to make a few dolls with a certain theme in mind like “flowers”, or with a certain color palette. Often if you work within a very structured set of “rules” for yourself, new ideas start popping up of new ways to expand on those rules. This may spark your creativity and get you excited about it again! :)
so true! Our minds can put us in a dark place and never be who we really want to be. It is a matter of making a new start, starting TODAY! Never too late, Journal is a huge part of my day and glad to see someone else that feels so strongly about it. It’s a release of stressors, thoughts, feeling free to express. Keep in a sacred place, just write away!!! LOVE IT!! Love your blog!
Thanks so much Kim! :) And you are definitely right, our minds can really be our enemy sometimes. We need to learn how to release those bad thoughts, stress, and everything else that is stopping us from living our lives… and journaling is a great way to do that.
