I’m so excited, because I received two copies of the awesome brand new art journaling book called “Journal It! – Perspectives in Creative Journaling” in the mail the other day. One for me, and one for you! This very inspiring book by Jenny Doh is perfect for beginners or for those who are curious about art journaling. It features 19 amazing artists, some of whom I have been following for years and simply adore, and some of whom I have never heard of but am falling in love with!
One of the things that I absolutely love about this book, is that each artist explains WHY they art journal. It’s interesting to see how diverse their answers are… from using it to heighten their awareness to using it to convey their emotions, and everything in between.
As different as their reasons are for journaling, their techniques and styles are even more diverse. I could just flip through the book over and over looking at all the images. Not only is it inspiring, but it’s encouraging to see that everyone has their own unique way to art journal. There is no one right way to do it. There are even step by step directions for each of their methods. But, the directions are more like overviews, a peek inside their process. If you’re looking for detailed instructions on how to do certain techniques, you’ll have to do more research beyond this book.
But the inspiration doesn’t stop at the images. Another great aspect of this book is that each artist offers insights on how to overcome fear, find your style, and more. It’s full of juicy tidbits that any beginner could appreciate. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves art books for inspiration, or to those looking to learn more about what art journaling is all about.

I would LOVE to win this book! I’m brand new to art journals (completed my first 2 pages just this past week), and I have A LOT to learn! I think the biggest thing I’ve taken away from your course, Kristal, is to just NOT be afraid, just DO IT, that there is no “right” or “wrong” when it comes expressing myself on paper. Thank you for giving away this book, someone will be blessed by it I’m sure!
This looks like a great book! I hope to win it and if not, I may have to buy! I love to see what/how others create!
Thanks!
Nikki
I would really love to win it. I think it would help me learn to process some of my thoughts, feelings and emotions and then be a useful resource to refer to help others as an Art Therapist.Well done Kristal, your website is looking fab! x Tanya
Drooling!!!! You make me WANT to have that book! I love seeing how other artists approach their journals… It’s like a peek into their personal space, mind and “secret diary” !!!

This book looks like it is full of great stuff….would love to win it. I enjoyed your video on “Ugly Art Journal Pages”, I needed to watch that one.

Thank you for all your great emails, love your work and I hope to win the journal it looks really cool.
Oh, how I love to find inspiration from art books, unfortunately, I don’t own many so this would be GREAT for me to win! Have mercy, pick me!
oooh….what a fantastic giveaway, Thanks to my soul sistah ‘Aubien’ who posted your giveaway with all of her ‘Brave Girl’ sisters. Thanks sis for sharing and Thank you, Kristal for sharing.
I have been following your Art Journaling 101 series from the start and I love it! My favorite part so far is the video about “ugly” journal pages – that helped me to realize that perfection is NOT what art journaling is about!
I really enjoyed your first part in your Art
Jounaling 101 series…After learning about what
these journals really are and the purpose behind them,
my friend and I decided that this was for us…
Again, many thanks!
Cindi
You KNoW I would love this book …based alone on all the questions I’m punting your way. It will be a great addition to anyone’s book library ! I have loved following the 101and dove right in. Love that you can watch them over and over for extra little clues. And you have been so great at putting yourself out there Kristal !! Even in the storm ..:). Saying you might be off line for a few days if/ when the power went out. Sure made a connection with your loyal following.
Hello, I just stumbled upon your blog this weekend and bookmarked it AS MUST READ ASAP!! I’ve only watched the video below about ugly pages and saw your beautiful black pages. The video was so helpful and it’s nice to hear that we just have to accept these and move on. I also liked the part that not every page will be the perfect page and shouldn’t be either. I’m looking forward to reading more on your blog and getting to know you and your art more. Thanks sooooo much for putting yourself in front of the camera for us and helping us along this journey.
I would LOOOOOOVE to win a copy of this book. My budget doesn’t allow me to buy books so this would be a dream for me to win it. The description you have for it sounds PERFECT for me!! Thanks so much for this chance to win.
I did sign up for your newsletter but I’m not on twitter or FB so just this comment will have to win it for me I hope!
How awesome it was that you kept going even thru the power outage. Happy to hear you and your family are SAFE!!
I have just recently started art journaling and journaling on a regular basis. I am thrilled about this book. And now that I’ve learned about you I will be checking out your Art Journaling 101. (Insert Excitement Here!!)
I am basically new to art journalling, so any tips and tricks would be appreciated in any kind of form!!!
I love art journaling..pls enter me in this awesome giveaway… Thanks sooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I found it refreshing to hear someone discuss “ugly” art. I’m such a perfectionist that I often can’t finish a project because I don’t like it. I am learning to continue and see what happens. Thanks for the book giveaway – would love to win!
Would love to win the book. I’m new to art journaling and it would help a lot!
I am really enjoying your art journaling 101. I have made a new journal, and have actually been making a page a day! It means a lot to me that you share, please know that it is very appreciated! Thank-you!
I’m loving your journaling blog and now a giveaway too! Yeah, please count me in!
I would love to win the book of course because it looks so wonderful and full of fun things to learn. I recently joined your email and I am learning so much from the 101 class. The techniques you show are so good and doable, but most of all I appreciated your commentary on no ugly pages! It really spoke to me and helped me to understand the importance of doing the pages for my self fulfillment. I have scrapbooked for years and worked very hard at having pages that others would think were beautiful, so with the art journaling it has been very refreshing to learn to be expressive for me, not for the approval of others! Thank you for the class and your videos and your blog! Thanks too for answering my email for real when I joined. You are helping lots of us and I appreciate it! I don’t FB or twitter but I love Pinterest which is how I found you!
Looks like a fantastic book! YOu’ve inspired me to get back to art journaling. Will check out your eCourse!!
This chic is brand new to art journaling and totally addicted already. I would greatly appreciate winning a copy of art journaling…
Good luck to all… cannot wait to see who wins
okie dokie, I shared, liked and commented…
I didn’t know about the project part so unfortunate for me I won’t get those extra points… Poo
I just joined your site, excited about that and would LOVE to have this book!
Wow how exciting, it looks like a fantastic book. I am a newbie to the art journaling, I just started this summer when a friend showed me her art journal (amazing). Thank you for your great ideas and how you explaine your process of layering etc. I’m glad I met you through our “flyers” group. I will definately share your contest and fb page and “like” it also. Have a great week, and I have to admit, I hope I win (sigh).
kristal, i’ve just watched your video, you make me giggle! your such fun and full of enthusiasm!
i love your blog and the art journaling 101 e-course,
it has given me confidence in myself and helped me get rid of that inner critic that i have holding onto my shoulders at times!
the part i liked best so far is the “ugly pages”, i have learnt from that video that nothing is perfect and sometimes what comes out of you onto the page sometimes reflects how you are feeling.
journaling and “ugly pages” helps you get rid of those feelings inside, onto the paper and out of your head.. yay!
i also loved your tips and techniques and examples of others work that you admire.
the course has helped me week by week to get my head around art journaling and learn whatever you create… its your style… and its ok… in fact … its just great! make it your own !
so thank you for this course, kristal, it has CONFIRMED and SUPPORTED my own ideas and thoughts on art and journaling and through your videos, although talking to us all, you make it feel so personal.
kind regards
paula
I spent some time watching some of your other videos, been a bit busy, and reading through the lessons, as I’ve mostly concentrated on looking at the pictures, and I’ve gotta say you’ve got me newly enthused, Kristal. I actually spent the arvo, just before collecting my boy from school, with the internet switched off and tidying up (I’m so creative I’ve got an issue keeping the place tidy) so my son and I can get back into our art journalling, as we were doing and enjoying it so much about a year ago. My son actually asked to do some art together only the other night. Perhaps going over the lessons was meant to be, so I could once again spend some quality time with my youngest. Thanks for the push. ;-)
Hi! I’d looove to win the book!!!!
Thanks for the chance to win. I came here from Julie Balzer’s blog (thanks so much for the link)!
I found your website through your comment on Twitter regarding Roben Marie. I have been following her for a while now and have taken one of her workshops. She is awesome! I also signed up for your newsletter as your website resonated with me. I am fairly new to art journaling and am anxious to participate in your blog series. Many thanks for the opportunity to win this beautiful book.

Thank you for the chance, I would love to win a copy of this book. I have been pulling my supplies together in order to start my art journal. I found an old book at goodwill appropriately titled A Guru’s guide to Serenity…to start my journal journey with:) It seems appropriate doesn’t it?? My pages will be gesso covered by the weekend and then hope the inspirations fly…. Thank you.
Thank you for the chance to win.
Kristal … I am enjoying your Art Journaling 101 series. You are giving me lots of good tips and some reminders about things I had forgotten. The think you said that helped me a LOT is to make time for it regularly. I made a space but I don’t always make the time. Thank you for doing this series! And thanks for another entry in your giveaway!
I would love to win a copy of this book. Thank you for posting the link on Julie’s blog.
Aloha, Kate
Kristal – I’m so NOT above begging! PLEASE save for me! You KNOW I’m on a roll and this would be such an asset to me right now. I’ve seen youtube video after youtube video with all these people going on and on about the blessings about art journallinng. I yawned. THEN I read your blog about WHY. NOW I get it – for CLARITY! And I started my very first art journal this past Saturday. I’ll message you my mailing address! :-) Yes, I will. THANKS SO MUCH! I’m on a journey….
I am so into art journaling right now and love this opportunity to win the book and get some more ideas on journaling. And I really want some new supplies to keep me entertained! So after reading the book I’ll know what to buy!!!! ;)
What a wonderful giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity:) I read and watched your journaling 101 today. I really like how you have focused a lot on the process of journaling and not just techniques, but I love techniques:) Please keep sharing! I love to watch someone art journal and hear there process in creating a page and also supply reviews:) I am wondering which jetstream pen you like. I do not have a Target, nearby so I looked on Amazon for the uni jetstream pen but there is more than one model and jetpens.com lists 8 models! Thanks
Enjoying the journal classes – your low key approach is helping me gain the confidence to just do it.

Love, Violette
Morning! I just became a new follower and have just started the Art Journaling 101 class. I’m so excited to have found you. And…now a chance to win a book…it’s like Christmas!!! ( Well, if you live where I do today we have 5 inches of snow falling, so it’s almost like Christmas). Thanks so much for the inspiration and the chance to win!
Hi Kristal-You have inspired me to do one thing on a page per day! even if it’s only a background prep. Your prompts and videos have changed how I think about doing art for me rather than just for production. I have taught metalsmithing to adults for 10 years in a community ed. program and I love it, but it has zapped my excitement to make projects for myself. The journaling has re-awakened me with sketches for new class projects, jewelry lines, fun words/quotes and just “art meditation”. THANK YOU FOR WAKING ME UP!!
Wow! You have so many people on here! This book sounds interesting. I jus discovered a book I had about journaling and drawing edges. It is so cool that you have two of these books and are giving one away., I am so happy how inspired you are to help others in journaling.
Chandra
Kristal, you crack me up! Love your personal videos ~ your voice fluctuations remind me of me… (my daughter said I do that too.) Also, I want to commend you on being so organized and personal with your newsletter and over-coming fear tips and encouragement to keep going. You shine! I have a lot of whispers in my head for creativity and so glad you are here to help me on my journey.
Peace & Joy, Suzanne Fernald
I would SO love to win this book. I love Julie Fei-fan Balzer’s work along with some of the others in the books. I can just imagine the knowledge in this book and the inspiration it would provide!
I would love to win. I found your comment over on Julie’s blog and raced over here and I am so glad to have met you and found your art journaling posts. I will be following now.
Me! Me! Pick me! I like your work and Julie Balzer’s and I’m sure the other artists are good (haven’t had a chance to check it out yet). I like Jenny Doh’s books – much better than I liked Somerset Studio. The other reason you should pick me? I’m old and my birthday is the day of your drawing. :oD
I would love to win the book, it looks awesome – thank you for the opportunity : – ) Deanna
